Enlightening Info. about 5-HTP!
I found this book to be invaluable. I had been on lots and lots of antidepressant medications and none of them worked for very long, nor without side-effects(in some cases the benefits didn't outweigh the side-effects). This book gave me HOPE! with no side-effects! I now take 5-HTP daily and feel much better.

920 O'Farrell Street: A Jewish Girlhood in Old San Francisco
Published in Paperback by Heyday Books (February, 2003)
Authors: Harriet Lane Levy and Charlene Akers
Average review score:

A thoroughly charming, engrossing read of old San Francisco
What an incredible find this book is for anyone who is in love with San Francisco. Harriet Levy was born in The City in 1867 and lived at 920 O'Farrell Street until about 1904. Those readers who are familiar with the sights and sounds of San Francisco will be equally pleased with the unfamiliar: "Near the corner of Polk Street stood the cow barn of old man Waller, to which the anemic children of the neighborhood, glass in hand, hurried in the early morning hours to receive warm milk fresh from the cow." (3) About one-third of the chapters are named for rooms of her house. The rooms are described in great detail only to flow into some memory of an event that occurred there. For instance, before reminiscing about her sister Addie's beautiful singing voice and the songs she sang, Levy describes the room itself: "...the ceiling of the music room a lattice of bamboo intertwined with garlands of tea roses and autumn leaves, and burnished birds of copper ! and blue winging their flight..." (106) Levy's vivid description puts you right there, eyelids drooping. Familiar names also pop up, like Alice Toklas who was a friend and neighbor. This book is an absolute treasure!

Account of the Manners and Customs of Modern Egypt
Published in Textbook Binding by Peter Smith Pub (June, 1964)
Author: Edward W. Lane
Average review score:

Details of Rare Book
As far as content is concerned, this book is an invaluable primary historical source on the Egyptian people of the early 19th century. The brief Frenchification is over and Egypt is under the Ottomans, though quasi-autonomous. The British aren't there yet. Lane reports his first-hand observations. He has some interesting etymological speculations, such as the origin of the name Cairo. There is a chapter on the uncertain predicament of the Jews of Cairo, who were obviously still there then. Various editions have come out, some worth thousands of dollars. In general, the expensive editions are the third and before. Lane died in 1876. The fifth edition was done near 1871 from an earlier annotated copy of his. It was edited by his nephew, Edward Stanley Poole. In his lifetime, Lane was criticised strictly from a literary point of view. His observations, however, are very similar to those of Frazier on European customs. He was, in other words, a misunderstood budding anthropologist. In names and concepts he tries to see things from an Arabic point of view, rather than following the custom of Europeanization. I think we may appeciate Lane better and find him more valuable than his contemporaries did.

All About Osteoarthritis: The Definitive Resource for Arthritis Patients and Their Families
Published in Hardcover by Oxford University Press (08 February, 2002)
Authors: Nancy E. Lane and Daniel J. Wallace
Average review score:

Great Resource
Just a fantastic resource. Lane and Wallace really put together a high-quality text that explains all there is to know about Osteoarthritis. I have been searching for more information on this subject for years, and have constantly been frustrated and confused. "All About Osteoarthritis" puts everything together in a clear, coherent fashion and it is easily the most comprehensive source on this disabling condition that I have read. If you have Osteoarthritis, or know someone with it, then I highly recommend this book.

All My Love, Forever: Letters Home from a World War II Citizen Soldier

I couldn't put the book down!
I highly recommend this read to anyone interested in WWII or anyone who has experienced it. I'm 32, and I learned a lot about the war that our grandparents didn't like to talk about. The letters that Mr. and Mrs. Lane left behind are true treasures. It was like the letters were being wrote to me. Very romantic, emotional, sad at parts and happy at most. I don't think I've ever read a book so fast, just so I could find out what was happening next. You'll laugh, cry, and WON'T be abole to put it down. This makes a great gift for anyone. I bought one for my grandmother, and she loves it! My grandfather was in the war, and I know she can really relate to it. ENJOY!!

An Arabic - English Lexicon
Published in Hardcover by Laurier Books Ltd. /AES (01 January, 1980)
Author: E.W. Lane
Average review score:

Lane's Lexicon
Lane's Lexicon is by far the biggest and most comprehensive dictionary of Arabic terms translated into the English Language. Arabic, the richest language on earth is the Language by which God revealed his Qur'an in order to teach mankind that which we did not know. Only because God has preserved His Qur'an through it's memorisation and committed study at the hands of Muslim scholars and their students the Arabic Language has too been preserved. Modern Arabic still depends on this Classical Qur'anic Arabic for it's basis and point of reference. For this reason Lane's Lexicon is indispensable in the study and translation of Arabic texts.

a credible book to credit great artwork
I found this book ot be an excellent asset to my collection of modern british art. I thought that the large amount of content was covered thouroghly, but not drawn out to get stale(just like the artwork itself, discussed). This is a very important book because it recaps all of what is happening with the yBa movement in the artworld. This book is for anyone who wants to be on top of the world of modern art.

The Art of Robert Bateman (An Allen Lane/Madison Press Book)
Published in Paperback by Penguin Books Ltd (01 November, 1981)
Author: Text Byramsey Derry Introduction by Roger Tory Paterson
Average review score:

The Art of Robert Bateman is superb & endearing.
To see a Robert Bateman work is to glimpse a moment in Nature's time when an elk treks across a vast winter landscape of snow, conifers & mountains; or a stream bank where tender green plants glow against the moist earth & a minute bird perches; or a trumpeting bull elephant confronts you in a storm of dust. Roger Tory Peterson has written an expressive introduction & Ramsay Derry's profile of the artist makes good reading - especially as he's included a history of who Robert Bateman is; where he's lived; several works-in-progress sketches; photos of the artist in action & on location. A worthy addition to your library.
